注解：If I could just do. 这是一个表达请求的句型，中文的意思是“我只是想做什么”、“请允许我做某事”这是一个委婉的表达出自己意愿的句型，值得大家留心学习。毕竟大家都是需要礼貌的。例句：

注解：表达拒绝，你不可直接就说no，你可以用时间很晚之类的话来拒绝。

我彼此欣赏”，这里“欣赏”是动词，而英文原文是用名词“admiration”。

要表达“你我怎么样”这样的意思，可以用“we are part of +怎么样的名词”来表达，part of避开了繁琐的动词，直接用介词结构来表达是非常清楚的。

英文的表达，不是你记住多少东西，而是需要你在语法的规则下创造性的运用语言，这才是成功驾驭语言。

weak这个词是一语双关，prefer weak可以指代就不要太烈，还有就是你很软弱。很明显，Zoe是听出来了第二层意思。

Zoe No, the stronger the better.

注意介词，harm后面接in这个介词。

Frank It's a cheap ploy.

Zoe It's cheap but effective.

1. 这是一个有说服力的虚拟语气，虚拟语气在这里就是数学里面的反证法，反证法是说服技巧中非常有用的。

2. 此句的虚拟语气是对现状的一种虚拟。即Past Subjunctive（虚拟语气的过去），表示与现在的事实相反的假设，动词常用过去式，但动词 be 则要用 were，三个人称都是一样。后接的主句中的动词，就要用 should（或 would，或 could）+ Root。

If I were rich，I could do so.（= As I am not rich，I can not do so.）

注解：avoiding是主动分词作伴随状语。（注：我常把现在分词和过去分词说成主动分词和被动分词，因为，这是这两个分词的本质属性。）

在一个句子里，只能出现一个谓语动词，若要想表达出更多的动作，那么就要对这些动词进行变形，可以有不定式结构、分词结构、动名词，还有介词结构来表达出，就看你如何有效的组织这些元素来表达出自己想要表达的东西。

（二）intrigue是名词，表达了一种secret plan的感觉。关于词汇，希望大家可以自己去查字典，我也是从字典里搬出来的。

Zoe But is there any disadvantage?

用反问句表达出自己的不认同。

Frank Sloppiness, for one.

for one表达了一种“至少”的观点，这句意思就是“至少Sloppiness”

Sloppiness，来自sloppy .adj “that shows a lack of care, thought or effort.”

Zoe I promise you absolute discretion.

Frank So, we're talking about trust.

Zoe Use whatever words you like.

Frank Words matter very much, Ms. Barnes. You should care more about them, given your profession.

given sth 鉴于某事，出于什么原因。

matter. sth matter 某事很重要，你不要再说sth is important. 用matter这个词吧。比如之前的“black lives matter”就是表达了这一层意思。

Zoe Then, yes… Your trust.

Frank So, which Zoey Barnes am I to trust?

The one who wrote about the fireman that married the meter maid? Or the one who authored a very fine article on a new jogging path in Rock Creek Park? Don't be flattered, I read everything.

1. to trust 是不定式作表语，这里的正常语序是 I am to trust Zoey. 不定式结构可以几乎除了做谓语以外的所有成分，主语，宾语，表语，定语、状语，补语。关键是你如何安排它为你服务。

2. 关于“写” Frank给我们示范了什么是词语替换：wrote about+事件（the fireman); authored+文章(article)

3. 定语从句who引导。 主谓宾当然是最重要的，但是修饰定语也是很重要的，可以做定语的有形容词、名词、不定式、介词结构、分词结构、定语从句。

1. 两个what都是引导的是在从句里作doing的宾语的主语从句。

2. have me doing, 注意这里的doing而不是do，do的话就是省略了to 的不定式，表达了要去做某事（而还没有做）。而doing则是已经发生了，或者，你可以认为这个doing就是动名词，要某人做了某事，要的是一个结果，而不是要求你去做。

Frank Do I?

Zoe You would've made a great Secretary of State.

1. 这一句是Zoe说的最大胆也是效果最好的一句话。would have done 本应该做某事（而现实是没有）

2. 如果自己用这个句型，多半是后悔和自责。用在别人身上有讽刺的意味，也有对对方惋惜的意味。would have done意味还远不止这些，注意就是了。

3. 这句话在对话里面的分量非常重，第一，Zoe是有备而来的。第二，打算让Frank做国务卿这件事外人是不可能知道的，Frank知道Zoe是非常聪明的一个人。所以，他才决定认真对待这个来访者。

Frank (a pause) How exactly may I help you, Miss Barnes?

Zoe You must kno the administration legislative agenda. What's coming up first?

Frank对Zoe的试题，看她到底会多聪明，能分析出多少。

这个why是要知道她的reason，而不是瞎猜的。

到这里，Frank就已经知道了Zoe是一个聪明、细心、大胆且要向上爬的一个女生，可以为他所用。

句型You might very well do sth“你不妨多想想”其实也是一语双关，might well又表达了“很可能”，你猜对了，但也表达了你随便猜的意思，也就是不对的意思。一直吊着Zoe

Frank I hope you'll understand that I want to sleep on all of this. I never make such big decision so long after sunset and so far from dawn.

sleep on sth 本意是“在这件事情上睡觉”，引申过来的意思就是今天不思考，等明天再说这件事，也就是容我想想。

so long after sunset and so far from dawn很好的时间表达，用于推迟某件事情。我们常常用时间紧迫，时间很晚来委婉的拒绝别人。这是一个很好的范例。

这一句很迷惑，if在这里的意思应该表达“让步”的含义，“即使”，即使有效，但他不知道对谁有效，言外之意肯定对我没有效果呀，如果对我有效的话，那么我就知道有谁了，所以这句 I don't know who they are委婉地撇清了自己。
