Dear ArtCenter community,

Filmmakers look forward to seeing their final work on the big screen in ideal conditions and together with the team who made the impossible possible. How else can we judge our work in ways that inform our individual storytelling aesthetic?

This is particularly critical when we are students—engaged in creative experimentation, pushing against preestablished boundaries, and leaning into shaping our art, craft and, ultimately, our own paths.

Ideal screening conditions are equally important when exploring the iconic works of master filmmakers, learning to unpack them and understand what makes them so transcendent.

There is good news for all ArtCenter students who consider the Ahmanson Auditorium at Hillside Campus a critical venue: “the Ahmanson” is being entirely reenvisioned. And, as the largest venue at ArtCenter, this space is home to all students who convene and gather for events, lectures and meetings.

A newly imagined state-of-the-art space has been designed, demolition is complete and construction is under way. The new Ahmanson will be completed in the fall.

Soon you’ll be getting a letter from Film Department Chair Ross LaManna, which will describe in further detail the new Ahmanson. Please look for it.
